Urunana Development Communication (Urunana DC) is a Rwandan national NGO which has its foundation in the work that was originally being implemented by Health Unlimited’s Well Women Media Project since 1998. UrunanaDC is a specialized organization in Behavior Change Communication using radio and Interpersonal Communication.
Since1999 Urunana DC has been producing two radio programs: Urunana Radio Soap Opera broadcast on BBC Gahuzamiryango and rebroadcast on radio Rwanda and Umuhoza magazine which is broadcast on Radio Rwanda. Urunana Well Women Media Project III targets rural women and youth of reproductive age addressing sexual and reproductive health issues.
Over these years, Urunana Soap Opera sent messages to a population beyond easy reach – in a simple language, capturing the imagination of the listeners with its engaging depiction of village life and contributed incredibly to the positive change of people’s live in Rwanda. In 2006 Urunana went beyond using radio and started interpersonal communication activities in two districts of rural Rwanda ie Rulindo and Bugesera.

I have finished 11 years without a baby, but I can say that 90% of the good family I have is a result of good relationship between Odeta and Shyaka( a couple in Urunana soap opera). All that happened to them we have gone through, we love each other and pay no attention to what we hear, we thank BBC, but we can’t avoid telling you that the separation of Odeta and Shyaka distressed us.
At this point , though we can’t change the wish of story liner, Devota(Shyaka’s new fiancé), should have a baby with Shyaka, it will be so helpful to many couples who are still trying to get babies,, and if they fail to get a baby, do help us they shouldn’t separate because this can strengthen us , to continue being patient and faithful even we fail to get a baby, that is the usefulness of BBC(Urunana) in our family.
